Former Governor of Enugu state, Barrister Sullivan Chime who is the immediate past governor has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC)
His defection could be related to a looming war between him and Deputy SenatePresident
Ike Ekwerenmadu. This duo before the 2015 elections were involved in one of the heaviest political battles in the state, as chime planned to unseat Ekwerenmadu in the senate.
However, latest happenings points to the fact that the former governor has not given up on the Enugu west senatorial seat. In a new development, spokesman of the APC in the South – East, Mr Hyacinth Ngwu announced that chime has joined the ruling party.
The development did not go down well with some Nigerians who felt Chime’s defection was to evade prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over his alleged involvement in the 2015 election money shared by former petroleum minister, Dieziani Alison Maduekwe.
The question that is yet to be answered now is, if the EFCC and the ICPC will re-visit the corruption allegation levelled against the former governor who has a case with the anti-graft body.
With this, Chime has joined the likes of Jim Nwobodo, Orji Uzor Kalu and other sons of the Igbo extraction who had defected to the APC.
