……..No two parties go to court and come out smiling especially for a political party like the PDP that is in the opposition, Jonathan
As efforts to save the soul of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) takes a new twist, former President Jonathan has thrown his weight behind the Governor Dickson’s led Peace and Reconciliation Committee, in order to whip all the Waring factions into line. He insisted that a political solution remained the best option to resolving the lingering leadership crisis rocking the PDP.
Jonathan urged the waring parties to embrace negotiations out of the current challenges facing the party. He stated this while receiving the governor and members of his committee in his country home at Otuoke, Ogbia local government area, Bayelsa state.
Jonathan reiterated that the report of the peace committee will help in strengthening the internal mechanisms and peaceful relations amongst party members and matters relating to the party crisis in court,be settled out of court.
He commended the Dickson led committee immensely for doing a good work aimed at healing old wounds and the committee deserved encouragement.
He was full of joy as he single handedly thanked the governor and his entourage
for taking time to go around the country to meet with key stake holders and leaders of the party to seek ways of returning the party to its peaceful state as it were.
Jonathan who was emphatic on adopting a political solution to resolving the crisis also stated that this would ensure a win-win outcome for the warring factions within the party.
He said: “No two parties go to court and come out smiling especially for a politically party like the PDP that is in the opposition”.
Jonathan opined that courts should have no business in deciding who should be the chairman of the political party as people who went to court, sometimes could not get the desired result at the end.
While presenting the report, Governor Dickson told the former president, that Bayelsa has benefited substantially from the PDP adding that, it was the only platform that has given the position of the president to a minority sate.
Governor Dickson also stated that both Bayelsa and Ijaw nation is indebted to the PDP, the governor said it is a thing of Joy and pride to work for the final resolution of the crisis.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, just before the presentation, former minister of the FCT and a member of the PDP Board of Trustee (BoT) Abba Gana, eulogised Dickson for his remarkable leadership quality as a peacemaker which he said helped in pushing through the peace process.
Gana who commended former President Jonathan for conceding defeat to president Muhamadu Buhari at the time he did, noted that that singular move restored peace and averted the looming crisis that would have consumed the nation.
I The former president therefore called on the parties to submit themselves to a political solution and expressed hope that it would finally put to rest the protracted crisis.
